For many people, marriage is a loving, enriching experience. However, there are many couples who are dissatisfied with their relationships and remain married. According to the interdependence theory, people evaluate their personal satisfaction with a relationship by assessing costs and benefits. On average, nearly 2 million people get married every year and approximately 876,000 divorce. Research suggests the top 5 reasons for divorce include communication problems, infidelity or betrayal, financial problems, psychological, emotional, and physical abuse, and loss of interest. In the fifth episode of Reflections in Color : Celebrating Journeys in Wellness, we meet Ijeoma Oguh, Goodjournee Blog Content Creator. In this episode we discuss Ijeoma’s personal marital history to 1) identify social expectations and stigmas, 2) intersection of emerging adulthood and intimate partner relationships, 3) loneliness and isolation within marriage, 4) interdependence in marriage, and 5) effective strategies for a healthy relationship.
