Who are We?

Minds Over Melanin is a virtual, mental health reform organization committed to prioritizing the racial and cultural specific mental health needs of the African/Black Diaspora and marginalized communities.

Why?

Minds Over Melanin was founded to create racial and cultural equality in mental health treatment. The mental health system was created without regard for the authentic experiences of the African/Black Diaspora and marginalized communities. As a result, the norms of human behavior are understood through the “White” experience.

Black and Brown people are seeking mental health services more than ever, but unfortunately their CULTURAL DIFFERENCES from the norm established by white supremacy ARE CLASSIFIED AS ABNORMAL. Consequently they are more likely to receive inaccurate diagnoses and ineffective treatment.

How?

Our reform initiative is implemented through Advocacy, Research, and Treatment.

In Advocacy, we promote awareness and community through Education and Storytelling.

In Research, we empower communities to directly Inform their mental health care.

In Treatment, STAY TUNED!

What We Believe

We believe that, “Different is not Abnormal.”

We believe that people deserve to be seen, heard, valued, and cared for exceptionally beyond the bias associated with their melanin.

We believe that psychology can be flexible to the specific needs of their ever-changing population.
