Grief and racial trauma are rarely discussed together. After the “national awakening” to experiences of racial injustice, a debate sparked about the “correct” way to process and address racial trauma. Racial trauma describes experiences of systemic racism, oppression, and prejudice towards members of the Black community.

The stages of grief has been used as a reference to help us understand the different ways people process grief.
